Who am I?

September 24, 2018

If my hands and mouth were taken away from me, who would I belong to and identify with? Where does my worth come from then?

Who am I without my hands…

Without my writing?

Without my passions?

Without my dreams?

Even our God given calling does not define us.

Who am I without my voice…

Without social media?

Without the approval of man?

My identity finds itself in trouble when I rely on the approval of man to define me, and depend on the praises of man to approve my gifts and talents.

“O, Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.”

- Psalm 131:1-3

Often, I forget to tear down all I identify with-even the good, and just rest on the fact that I am a child of God.

“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel; Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.” – Isaiah 43:1

Until we fully find rest and confidence as sons and daughters of the most high, we will continue to wander aimlessly in our identity.

When the world says you don’t measure up, what does your father in heaven say about you?

“You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed desolate, but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her, and your land married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a young woman, so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.” – Isaiah 62:3-5

Declare this over yourself:

I am a chosen son/daughter of the king.

I am beloved and an heir of Christ.

I am significant and precious in my Father’s eyes.

I am perfectly and wonderfully made.

I am holy and blameless in His sight.

I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

I am a witness of the goodness of the Lord.

I am the head not the tail.

I am the first not last.

I am anointed and highly favored.

I am seated in heavenly places.

I am victorious.

I am fully complete in Christ and lack nothing.

I am God’s child who is abundantly given a wonderful inheritance for the rest of my days.
